A Sonometer (also known as a Monochord) is a laboratory instrument used to study the relationship between frequency, length, and tension of a vibrating string. When equipped with a wedge knife, it becomes suitable for demonstrating node and antinode formation in resonance experiments.
Material: High-quality wooden or metallic base
String: Stretched wire over a hollow box
Wedge Knife: Provided to act as a bridge or support for resonance tuning
Scale: Calibrated scale to measure string length
Pulleys: Attached at one end for tension adjustment using weights
Verification of the laws of vibrating strings
Study of resonance and frequency variation
Experiments in acoustics and wave physics
Commonly used in CBSE/ICSE/state board school labs and B.Sc. practicals
