Newton’s Disc (also called a Color Disc or Newton Color Wheel) is a classic physics and educational tool used to demonstrate the concept of color mixing and the nature of white light.
It is a circular disc divided into segments painted in seven colors of the rainbow —
Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, and Red — arranged in the same order as the visible spectrum.
When the disc is rotated at high speed, the colors blend together due to persistence of vision, and the disc appears to be white or light grey.
This visually demonstrates Isaac Newton’s discovery that white light is actually a combination of all visible colors.
